Sesuit Neck Property Owners Association Mission Statement

Until the 1960’s, Sesuit Neck was a rural neighborhood comprised of homes including those of the Crowell, Sears, Shiverick, Eldridge, Stedman, Hyde, Stone, Aldrich, Lawrence, Schweinler families as well as the Howes beach cottages.

Sometime around 1954, with the completion of the jetty “The Neck” began growing as a summer and retirement community. The jetty created the harbor and the beach, which was then donated to the town of Dennis by the Nichols family.

In 1967, the Sesuit Neck Property Owners Association was formed with the mission to:

  • PRESERVE THE CHARACTER OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD
  • HAVE A COLLECTIVE VOICE IN TOWN AFFAIRS WHEN NECESSARY
  • FOSTER A NEIGHBORHOOD SPIRIT

Through the intervening years, the Sesuit Neck Property Owners Association has grown to over 175 members and has an active Board of Directors that works through the following committees:

Beach

  • Maintains a volunteer group that cleans the beach every Thursday evening
  • Works to preserve the dunes including fencing, signs, and the planting of beach grass
  • Worked for and was instrumental in the Town passing a law to protect the use of public land for the benefit of private property owners

Beautification

  • Maintains plantings, shrubs, and sprinkler system at the James Howes Park located at the intersection of Bridge Street and Sesuit Neck Road.
  • Spearheaded and monetarily contributed to design and building of new "bridge" over widened culvert on Bridge Street.
  • Cleared and put in a bench overlooking the harbor at the site of the Shiverick Shipyard Monument.
  • Put in a “Town Signature” fence at Harborview Beach.

Attendance at Key Town Board Meetings

  • Waterways
  • Conservation Committee
  • Capital Appropriation Committee

Attending these meetings allows our neighborhood to be informed. From time to time, the Board will advise neighbors of important meetings and/or issues that could impact the neighborhood.

Safety

  • "No Parking", speed limit and street signs are monitored
  • Brush is cleared from dangerous corners and beach access sites
  • Safety and security issues are reported to the police
  • Traffic monitored during Independence Day Fireworks; number of cars, speeds, traffic movement

Advocacy

When deemed necessary, the Association may hire legal counsel or other consultants to represent its views to the Town. A fund is maintained to give us the flexibility to act quickly when necessary. This is usually done after consultation with the neighbors and, if the expenditure is significant, by formal vote if possible.

Membership Directory

Directories by alphabetical order and by street are maintained and posted on the SNPOA Membership Page. Member password is required.

Friendship

Such events as the Welcoming Cocktail Party and Annual Meeting provide a forum for friends to get together. Each summer a picnic with food, drink, and games for the kids is held if there is enough interest.

Your participation and support of the Sesuit Neck Property Owners Association is important to the well being of “The Neck” and fosters a “neighborhood” feeling as we continue to grow.
